Federal Rebate Eligibility
When shopping for an EV or PHEV model, it’s possible that it may qualify for the federal EVAP rebate, offering additional savings. However, for a model to qualify for the rebate, it must meet the following criteria:
- Be purchased or leased* on February 16, 2026, or later.
- Have a final transaction price of $50,000 or less. (Note: Canadian-made EVs are not subject to this price limit.)
- Be manufactured in Canada or in a country with a free-trade agreement with Canada.
- Comply with all Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
- Be highway-capable and designed for use on public roads (low-speed vehicles are not eligible).
- Have at least four functioning wheels.
- Be a new vehicle, registered for the first time.
- Eligible EVs with less than 10,000 km on the odometer can also qualify as demonstrator vehicles, meaning they were previously used for test drives at dealerships.
*Any transactions initiated before February 16, 2026, are not eligible for the incentive, regardless of the delivery date.
EVAP Rebate Amount
A qualified vehicle may be eligible for a rebate from the Canadian federal government, offering additional savings on top of the inherent value of owning an EV. This rebate applies to vehicles that are financed or leased, with varying amounts depending on the model, and is available for both fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Here’s a closer look at what the 2026 rebate program offers:
